Astoria Software Scores Stellar Review in InfoWorld as On-Demand Offering Debuts for Global Manufacturers

Review Shows Astoria On-Demand has Top Qualifications for Rapid, Low-Cost Creation and Delivery of Product Documentation

SAN MATEO, Calif. - May 30, 2007– Astoria On-Demand, the recently introduced Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution for structured content management targeted toward Forbes Global 2000 manufacturers, has achieved top marks in a product review conducted by InfoWorld. "For organizations that produce complex products and need an equally sophisticated solution to create associated documentation, Astoria On-Demand has top qualifications," according to the reviewing analyst, Mike Heck.

Published on May 23, 2007, and entitled, "Exclusive: Astoria On-Demand Tames Complex Docs," the InfoWorld review notes that Astoria On-Demand provides "a highly usable and quickly deployed hosted system based on OASIS' DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) standard." By supporting the DITA standard, Astoria enables customers to establish a common information model that maximizes content reuse and content interoperability where documentation published by one manufacturer can be readily incorporated into that of another manufacturer, a channel partner, or an approved third party.

Astoria On-Demand received an overall score of "Very Good" and is summarized in the review as an offering that "quickly moves enterprises, especially manufacturers, to a DITA standard publishing environment. This easy-to-use solution enables remote teams to author, review, and publish XML-based technical documents. [Astoria] On-Demand manages content as elements (which can be reused), provides automated workflow, and publishes to multiple formats - with the short implementation and predictable cost provided by the SaaS model."

Eric Kuhnen, director, product management for Astoria Software said, "We worked with customers throughout the development of Astoria On-Demand, and our main objective was to resolve their pain points in the areas of increasing product volumes, speeding time-to-market and managing global customization. With Astoria On-Demand, the payoff is impressive - our customers can count on faster product documentation cycles, allowing them to expand into new markets and improve overall revenue growth."

Astoria On-Demand lets manufacturers deliver accurate, up-to-date content in a variety of print and electronic formats — in some cases customized to a unique customer or product configuration. It is a complete, always-available structured content management solution where customers can:

  • enable digital deliverables for technical publications,
  • improve productivity in producing technical publications,
  • reduce cycle time for new or revised publications, and
  • meet or exceed the customer-driven demands for publication quality.
