Astoria On-Demand Advances DITA Support

Market-leading On-Demand XML Content Management System supports DITA 1.1, DITA Open Toolkit 1.4.1, and XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.1

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - July 7, 2008 – Astoria Software, the market leader in On-Demand dynamic publishing solutions, announces support within Astoria On-Demand for version 1.1 of the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) and version 1.4.1 of the DITA Open Toolkit. Additionally, Astoria On-Demand is now integrated with JustSystems' XMetaL Author Enterprise version 5.1.

"Our team is focused squarely on delivering the most valuable SaaS-based XML Content Management System available to customers today," said Michael Rosinski, President and CEO of Astoria Software. "We are fully committed to the DITA standard, and our integration with popular tools such as the DITA Open Toolkit and XMetaL Author Enterprise reflects that commitment. Furthermore, the marketplace has validated the combination of both SaaS and DITA, so we're fortunate to be positioned early and correctly to deliver a service that customers need."

Astoria On-Demand is the first eXtensible Markup Language (XML) Content Management System (CMS) to be recognized for its support of DITA 1.1, and one of only a handful of XML CMSs to implement the increasingly popular standard. Subscribers to Astoria On-Demand are working with a system that manages DITA 1.1 content in its native XML form rather than chunking and bursting the content as required by less efficient CMS technologies.

Astoria On-Demand also uses DITA Open Toolkit 1.4.1, the reference implementation of DITA 1.1, for rendering output. Astoria On-Demand subscribers design one set of style sheets and then use plug-ins to the DITA Open Toolkit to render output in the desired formats. A key feature of Astoria On-Demand's DITA Open Toolkit implementation is high-quality, multi-language PDF output through a plug-in that connects to Antenna House's XSL Formatter engine. Subscribers enjoy significant efficiencies in both style sheet development and output rendering because of Astoria On-Demand's support for the DITA Open Toolkit.

As a further sign of its commitment to DITA, Astoria On-Demand integrates with XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.1. Chia Ling, Astoria On-Demand Product Manager, commented, "Astoria Software has had a long-standing integration with the XMetaL line of structured content editors, and we are pleased to continue that partnership with a pioneering supporter of DITA." XMetaL Author Enterprise is available from JustSystems, Inc., and is sold separately from Astoria On-Demand.
